RBC invests in Canadian innovation with Delvinia

Toronto, October 24, 2006 – RBC is investing $20,000 towards its future by searching for the best ideas from Canadian youth. The RBC Next Great Innovator Challenge asks Canadian university and college students to examine the future of financial services and develop ideas to maximize that new future. Developed in partnership with digital customer experience experts Delvinia Interactive, the multi-channel campaign is designed to engage forward-thinking, technology-savvy young Canadians.

“RBC is continually looking for innovative ways to do business and to gain better understanding of their clients,” said Steve Mast, vice-president and managing director, Delvinia Interactive. “Through the Next Great Innovator, we hope to help RBC integrate fresh insight from the next generation of customers and management into the company’s evolving offerings and strategy.”

Teams of three or four students are invited to submit a proposal online by October 31 to the question: “How will today’s teens influence the financial services industry in Canada? Describe an innovation, idea or concept that financial services should consider in light of this influence.” From the submissions received, five will be chosen to come to Toronto for a final evaluation by the RBC Next Great Innovator judging panel in March 2007. The winning team will be awarded a $20,000 grand prize and the other finalists will receive a variety of other cash prizes.

RBC partnered with Delvinia Interactive to help engage and involve this often segmented and difficult-to-reach audience. After conducting insight sessions with a wide range of students to help design the program, Delvinia developed the concept platform and creative executions for the contest. The Delvinia team built www.nextgreatinnovator.com and produced a compelling online video that brought the culture of Canadian innovation to life. Collateral materials such as posters, integrated avatars, a profile quiz and much more, provide a rich and comprehensive experience to contestants.
