Adam Froman Receives IWAY Award for Pioneering Innovative Use of Broadband in Marketing Campaign

Adam Froman, President, Delvinia Interactive is recognized by CANARIE Inc. for improving Canadians’ access and use of Internet during Markham’s Municipal Election

Toronto, November 23, 2004 – Adam Froman, President of Delvinia Interactive, a leading digital agency in Toronto, was presented with a CANARIE IWAY Award at the 9th annual Information Highway awards ceremony in Halifax. Froman’s agency broke new ground in online communications for Markham’s introduction of Internet voting in 2003. The Award honours Froman for his vision and pioneering efforts to deliver public service information through broadband-based communications and moving Canadians toward e-democracy in a municipal election.

The CANARIE IWAY awards ceremony distinguished six Canadian innovators for their outstanding contribution to maintaining the country’s position as a leading nation in the information and communications technology sector. Nominated by colleagues at the Town of Markham and Election Systems and Software for the Application of Technology category, Froman lead an integrated marketing initiative to stimulate voter participation during advance polls and make voter information accessible to Canadians abroad or with disabilities. His team at Delvinia Interactive created a broadband-based website to demystify the voting process and explain “why vote” using streaming video. The web site contributed to a 300 percent increase in advance poll turnout and Internet voters represented 17% of voters in Markham’s election.

“Through the utility of advanced, innovative broadband web technology, Mr. Froman is facilitating the development of a progressive Canadian communications infrastructure,” said Andy K. Bjerring, President and CEO of CANARIE. “Broadband technology cannot be overlooked as a legitimate and effective communications channel to enable Canadians to participate in local government or access government services online.”

“I am tremendously proud of the recognition paid to the accomplishments of this project to study the utility of broadband communications for municipal governments,” said Adam Froman. “While challenges of broadband’s accessibility, content delivery and security are still evolving, I am equally proud of the Canadian consumers who are taking full advantage of the benefits of broadband technology and through usage are encouraging the growth of Canada's information society.”
